Dr. Rafael Carballo

Dr. Rafael Carballo was born and raised in the vibrant and bustling Mexico City. From a young age, he had a deep curiosity about animals, a fascination that naturally led him to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

He graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 2018, where he earned his veterinary degree with honours. Early on in his studies, Dr. Carballo was drawn to the world of equine medicine and behavior. This passion for large animal care guided much of his education, and he dedicated himself to learning about the complexities of animal health.

After completing his degree, he worked as a diagnostic imaging teaching assistant at UNAM, a role that expanded his expertise in veterinary diagnostics. Dr. Carballo then pursued a two-year rotating internship in large animal medicine, at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. This experience solidified his foundation in veterinary practice. He spent two years as an associate in a private practice in northern California before coming back to Canada with his wife.

However, over time, his professional interests evolved. Dr. Carballo transitioned from large animal to small animal medicine, mixing both parts of veterinary medicine in his field.

Outside of work, Dr. Carballo enjoys time with his family and dog Maple, going for hiking, running, practicing yoga —activities that help him stay active and balanced.
