Hospital Policies

Prescription Policy

We are required by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario to have a valid ‘veterinarian-client-patient relationship’ prior to prescribing any medications. This means that your pet must have been seen in the last 12 months or less in order to receive some medications.

Our veterinarians must feel comfortable that a prescription is being made in the best interest of your pet’s wellbeing and safety. We have hospital policies regarding routine examinations and/or blood testing while on certain medications and may require your pet to see one of our doctors prior to prescribing a new medication or one that your pet has not received from us for a period of time.

Safety of Pets and Clients at Preston Animal Clinic

We take the safety of our clients and pets very seriously.  Please ensure your pet is on leash or in a carrier at all times.  If your pet is nervous or anxious around other pets, please let the client care team know so we can find a quiet exam room upon your arrival.  Please be respectful of other clients and ask prior to engaging with their pet.

Ordering Food and Medications

Please aid us in making sure that you always have enough food and medication for your pet.  Ordering items at least 48 hours in advance will ensure that you never run out. Check out our on-line store and get your food and treats delivered directly.

Cancellations / Late and Missed Appointments

  • Our goal is to provide timely care to all our patients. If you need to cancel your appointment, we request a call or email at least 12 hours before your pet’s appointment. This allows us to accommodate other patients who may need medical care. We understand that extenuating circumstances do arise and attempt to make alternative arrangements when appropriate.

  • A $50.00 missed appointment will be applied to your file for all missed appointments.

  • If you need to cancel your pet’s appointment for surgery or any anesthetic procedure, we request a call or email at least 24 hours before your pet’s appointment.  Failure to cancel prior to 24 hours will result in $150.00 charge applied to your file.

  • Clients who arrive 10 minutes after their scheduled appointment time may be asked to make alternative arrangements if the schedule does not permit the late arrival.

Zero Tolerance Policy

Preston Animal Clinic has a zero tolerance policy for verbally or physically abusive behavior.  Our team works very hard to provide the best care possible and must be treated respectfully at all times.
